The Beneficial Effects of Massage
Massage therapy is as old as mankind. The word massage comes from the Arabic word “mash” which means to push softly. Kung Fu priests believed that an early morning massage with the palm of the hand could protect against the cold, keep the organs supple and prevent certain minor ailments. Hindu priests believed that massage could lessen fat, strengthen muscles and firm the skin.
Hippocrates, a philosopher and physician wrote, “… rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose and loosen a joint that is too tight.” Galen, a Roman physician, wrote “Massage eliminates the waste products of nutrition and the poisons of fatigue.”
Massage offers serenity for the body, spirit and soul. It can relax and regenerate. Your natural power centre will be activated, energy will flow and the body will be revitalized. The breath will deepen. Mind, spirit and soul will come to peace. Find a way to your own self again.
Massages dilates blood vessels, improving circulation and relieving congestion throughout the body. It acts as a mechanical cleanser, stimulating lymph circulation and eliminating waste and toxins. Massage also relaxes muscle spasms and relieves tension, increases blood supply and nutrition to muscles, improves muscle tone and helps prevent or delay muscular atrophy resulting from forced inactivity.
Massages disperses the oedema following injury to ligaments and tendons, lessens pain and facilitates movement. Makes you feel good – it is a sharing of loving energy involving trust and care and above all, love.
Hands
Hands speak without words. Our hearts are mirrored through their movements. Our hands explore the world of touch. To touch someone is to become part of them. To hold someone’s hand is to feel the beating of the heart. The hand has as many expressions as the face and it speaks a language of it’s own.
Our mind is energy and our hands are the projection of that energy. When touching someone your energy flows into that person. When touching someone, do it with love in your heart.
Take someone’s hand and you will have, in that moment, begun an awareness of yourself. That moment has the seed of the creation of love, every time it is done. Use your hands always for doing something good, adding and building of life.
Your hands are so sensitive to the elements of nature. Touch the bark of a tree or run your hand through a stream of cold water. Feel the softness of a baby’s skin or the texture of an animal’s coat.
Let your hands become the joining together of you and another human being, the extension of the heart, the merging of two rivers, the birth of new life. |
